new news from steven hawking

according to this article, "information" about matter is not lost when it falls into the black hole -- rather it is spit back out in a mangled form after the black hole "dies off".

i think it's in the "brief history of time" that steven hawking explained naked singularities in laymen's terms as the place where all laws of physics break down. anything can be emitted out of a singularity -- an elephant, a chair, etc. so i wonder -- does this new finding have any bearing on the output of the singularity? if that is the case - it will suck - because i always thought it was cool for the naked singuarity's "womb" to give birth to random stuff...

naumburg orchestra @ central park

i went to a free classical music performance presented by the naumburg orchestra at central park last night. vivaldi's "four seasons" was incredible. benny kim, the violin soloist together with conductor gregory vajda did an amazing number. i also liked the integration of music with the sounds of the park. without the isolation of the concert hall walls, the music came alive and mixed in with the distant barks of dogs, occasional roars of airplanes flying by, an occasional cry of a baby in a stroller.

relative to the low volume level required by the music, all of the outside sounds gained in articulation and meaning. the highly structured music played out by the bandshell synthesized with the unstructured sounds of the park harmoniosly. it was very different from the cleveland orchestra performances at the blossom music center where, because it is situated in the middle of a field, all sounds other than those of the crickets and the listeners were abscent.

my nervous system welcomed the synthesis and my minded drifted off.
